At the core of this method is the foundation pattern, often referred to as a Sloper, block, or blueprint. This base pattern allows you to define all critical measurements and design features before moving into detailed development. It's not just for clean visual results—it's the technical backbone that ensures your virtual pattern will perform properly when transformed into an actual product.

This particular bag features a bottom gusset construction, where the gusset attaches directly to the bottom of the body panel. You’ll begin by drafting the bottom—typically a circle or square—then build the body pattern so that its perimeter aligns precisely with the bottom shape. This allows the gusset to wrap around the body without distortion.

Along the way, you’ll also use key CLO3D tools such as:
Edit Pattern for precise control of shapes and outlines
Edit Curve Point to create smooth, intentional curves
Fullness Line Tool, which lets you evenly spread a section of the pattern to add natural shape and volume, based on selected segments
These tools support not only design creativity but also ensure the technical quality required for professional manufacturing.

Whether your goal is simulation, prototyping, or real-world handbag production, this lesson provides a structured foundation to build confidently and precisely.

Note on Learning Order:

This Professional Pattern Drafting Course consists of 4 lessons in total. I highly recommend starting with Lesson 1 and following the sequence (1, 2, 3, 4).

Each lesson is designed to master a particular set of fundamentals. For example, essential tools and basic setup information are detailed in the earlier lessons. If you begin with Lesson 4, you may miss critical information regarding tools and foundational techniques necessary for completion.

Build your skills step-by-step for the best results!

⚠️ Important note for beginners:
If you are new to CLO3D, please watch the official CLO3D Interface Basics videos provided by CLO before starting this lesson. A basic understanding of the CLO3D interface will help you follow the drafting process smoothly.
