At the core of this method is the foundation pattern, often referred to as a Sloper, block, or blueprint. This base pattern allows you to define all critical measurements and design features before moving into detailed development. This particular bag features a bottom gusset construction, where the gusset attaches directly to the bottom of the body panel. You’ll begin by drafting the bottom—typically a circle or square—then build the body pattern so that its perimeter aligns precisely with the bottom shape. This allows the gusset to wrap around the body without distortion.
